Training To Become A Practitioner
If you want to pursue a career in Complementary Therapy, the first step is to find the right course.
On this page you will find:
Tips and Advice - to assist you with selecting the right course for your requirements
Schools & Colleges - a selection of our featured Schools and Colleges, offering courses throughout the UK at some of the most prestigious schools.
Further listings can be found in our Directory
When choosing the right course for your requirements you should consider:
Training Staff
Make sure that the staff who’ll be teaching you have at least three to five years clinical experience and ideally, though not essential, teaching qualifications. Teaching is a skill in itself.
Student Numbers
Smaller classes are better. Make sure that there won’t be more than 12 students to a teacher.
Breadth of Knowledge
Find out what is covered in each module, for example how many different types of massage are covered. Anatomy and physiology needs to cover the skin, the skeletal/muscular system, the respiratory system, the nervous and endocrine systems as well as many common disorders of these systems.
Supervised Practice
Look at opportunities for supervised clinical experience - how much practice will you get?
Assessment
Some people are better with coursework; others prefer a written exam. Make sure the balance is the most appropriate for you.
Visit the college - talk to students and try to sit in on a class before signing up for any course.
