About Massage Therapy UK
The purpose and aims of the website are:
1. For general information:
- to promote awareness and understanding of massage and associated complimentary therapies.
- to provide a comprehensive directory of massage and complementary therapy practitioners.
2. For Practitioners:
- to provide a cost effective, easy and effective method for practitioners to promoting their practice on the Internet.
- to take advantage of the internet as a soloution to advertise and increase their client base.
Like most things, Massage Therapy UK was born out of a touch of madness by its founder! It is totally independent, the founder, owner, and managing director being Nigel Wilson.
Nigel has a background in systems engineering and a postgraduate diploma in management studies. In 1997, looking for a change in direction, he enrolled on a course at the London School of Sports Massage, qualifying as a sports massage therapist and starting a part-time practice called MuscleTonic.
It soon became apparent to him the difficulties of attracting new clients to his business, in particular was the problems (more so for his female colleagues) associated with advertising in classified ads of local newspapers; any mention of the word massage can get confused with the 'Personal Services' section so advertising for massage therapists tends to be curtailed.
When he moved house and was trying to locate therapists in his new area, he could not locate many even though it was obvious that there must be therapists in the area. Searching on the Internet proved very frustrating and what contact details and information he did find on Internet directories produced limited information about the practitioners and therapies offered.
So, instead of just sitting back and moaning about problems of advertising and the poor selection of websites on offer, he got out and founded his own website, specifically aimed at helping to promote and advertise the services of massage and complementary therapy practitioners.
On the 6th of May 2004 Nigel transferred the ownership of Massage Therapy UK to Alan & Julie Murphy. The brother and sister team will endeavour to maintain the high standards Nigel has set and our clients would expect from this high profile Website.
